KINGS POINT, N.Y. – The Cortland men's swimming and diving team competed at the non-team scoring U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Memorial Invitational on Saturday. The meet featured competitors from Cortland, Merchant Marine, The College of New Jersey, Kutztown University and Maritime College.
Eliseo Fernandez (Poughkeepsie/Roy C. Ketcham) and
Kevin Kohlhoff (West Islip) each won two events for the Red Dragons. Fernandez captured top honors in the 200-yard butterfly (2:02.37) and 200-yard backstroke (1:59.93), while Kohlhoff won both 1-meter diving (300.05 points) and 3-meter diving (296.15 points).
Fernandez led off Cortland's second-place 200-yard medley relay (1:40.10), with his backstroke leg followed by
Dariusz Sargent (Holland Patent) in the breaststroke,
Colin Veit (Port Jefferson/Earl L. Vandermeulen) in the butterfly and
Kellen Dickman (Montgomery/Valley Central) in the freestyle.
Jack Clark (Rochester/Aquinas Institute) finished second in both the 100-yard freestyle (48.46) and 50-yard freestyle (21.90). Veit was second in the 200-yard IM (1:58.86),
James DuTremble (Pleasantville/Briarcliff) placed second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:00.12), and
Lukas Struble (Middletown/Minisink Valley) was runner-up in the 200-yard butterfly (2:06.54).
Zack Kreiley (Dansville) finished third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.90) and fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.14).
Michael Scamacca (Rochester/Spencerport) was third in the 200-yard butterfly (2:07.10) and
Aiden Ramirez (Suffern) placed third in the 200-yard backstroke (2:08.46).
Jacob Cerrato (Beekman/Arlington) earned two of Cortland's fourth-place individual finishes with times of 2:04.38 in the 200-yard IM and 1:49.05 in the 200-yard freestyle.
Dylan Monaco (Lynbrook) was fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:03.70) and
Michael Tomasino (Lake Grove/Sachem North) finished fourth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:07.15).
Cortland will celebrate Senior Day next Saturday when it hosts Fredonia in a 1 p.m. dual meet.
