Red Dragons Reach 20-Win Mark with 66-43 Triumph at Oswego

OSWEGO, N.Y. - The Cortland women's basketball team reached the 20-win plateau for the fifth time in the last six seasons with a 66-43 victory at Oswego.
 
Cortland (20-3, 15-1 SUNYAC) is tied for first in the SUNYAC with New Paltz with two league games remaining. Cortland travels to Fredonia next Tuesday and Morrisville next Saturday, while New Paltz is at Plattsburgh on Friday and Potsdam on Saturday. If Cortland and New Paltz each go 2-0 next week to finish at 17-1, the teams will be tied through the SUNYAC's first four tiebreakers and the league's top seed would be determined by highest NCAA Power Index (NPI) ranking.
 
Joleen Lusk (Cherry Valley/Cherry Valley-Springfield) led Cortland with 15 points and seven rebounds. Brooke Tillotson (Marathon) finished with 14 points, seven rebounds and three steals, and Jackie Funk (Penfield) scored 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting and grabbed six rebounds.
 
Kaeli McAnally (Sophie Bissaillon (East Greenbush/Columbia) handed out a career-high eight assists. Sam Dembinsky (Wallkill) each scored nine points. Bissaillon hit three 3-pointers and pulled down four rebounds. Dembinsky made 4-of-6 field goals.
 
Giavanna White-Principio was the lone double-figure scorer for Oswego (9-14, 7-9 SUNYAC) with 10 points and she led the Lakers with seven rebounds. Bri Weaver ended with nine points and four steals.
 
Cortland led 18-10 after one quarter and was up 27-18 with 2:25 left in the second before finishing the period on a 10-0 run, including seven points by Dembinsky, to take a 37-18 halftime lead. The Red Dragons' lead ranged from 15-20 points in the third quarter, and between 13-23 points in the fourth.
 
Cortland finished the game shooting 40 percent from the field, including 8-of-11 in the fourth quarter, and the Red Dragons made 14-of-20 free throws. Oswego ended at 34 percent from the field overall and 1-for-12 from 3-point range, and the hosts made only 6-of-13 foul shots.
