DuTremble Wins 500-yd Freestyle Title, Veit Breaks School Record in 200-yd IM, to Open SUNYACs

BUFFALO, N.Y. – James DuTremble (Pleasantville/Briarcliff) won the 500-yard freestyle title and Colin Veit (Port Jefferson/Earl L. Vandermeulen) broke the school record in the 200-yard IM to highlight Cortland's performances during the opening days of competition at the 2026 State University of New York Athletic Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Championship. The championship, which runs through Saturday, is being held at the Burt Flickinger Center on the campus of Erie Community College.
 
Cortland sits second out of 11 schools in the team standings with 234 points. Penn St. Behrend is the team leader with 321 points, followed by Cortland, Oswego (205), Penn St. Altoona (159) and Oneonta (156) in the top five. Penn St. Behrend, Penn St. Altoona, Pitt Bradford, Delhi and Alfred State are SUNYAC men's swimming and diving affiliate members this year, joining full-time members Cortland, Oswego, Oneonta, New Paltz, Potsdam and Fredonia.
 
DuTremble won the 500 freestyle in 4:37.97, putting him second on the Cortland's performers list in that event. Veit finished second in the 200-yard IM in 1:53.79, breaking the school record of 1:53.89 set by Makiah Poli last year.
 
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Kellen Dickman (Montgomery/Valley Central), Jack Clark (Rochester/Aquinas Institute), Dylan Monaco (Lynbrook) and Veit finished second in 1:24.42. On Wednesday, during the "first events" portion of the meet, Kevin Kohlhoff (West Islip) finished second in 3-meter diving with an 11-dive score of 507.95 points, and the 200-yard medley relay team of Eliseo Fernandez (Poughkeepsie/Roy C. Ketcham), Dickman, Veit and Clark placed second (1:32.94).
 
The top three finishers in each event earn All-SUNYAC honors. Winners are first team, runners-up are second team and third-place finishers are third team.
 
Clark was fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (21.30, 21.14 prelims) and Kensington Wilck (Newark) finished fifth in 3-meter diving (324.05 points). Jacob Cerrato (Beekman/Arlington) (4:50.51) and Monaco (4:53.18) placed sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 500-yard freestyle, and Conner Utter (Manassas, VA/Patriot) was eighth in the 200-yard IM (2:02.62, 2:01.13 prelims).
 
Other Red Dragon individual scorers, all on Thursday, included Ayden Baxter (Marlboro) in 11th place in the 200-yard IM (2:00.71), Zack Kreiley (Dansville) in 12th place in the 200-yard IM (2:02.66), Dariusz Sargent (Holland Patent) in 14th place in the 200-yard IM (2;03.04), Lukas Struble (Middletown/Minisink Valley) in 15th place in the 500-yard freestyle (4:59.11, 4:58.81 prelims), and Lucas Gannon (Schenectady/Mohonasen) in 16th place in the 500-yard freestyle (4:59.15, 4:58.02 prelims).
 
Teams are allowed to enter "B" relay teams that can score points, but can't finish ahead of any other school's "A" relays. Cortland's scoring "B" relays included:
 
800-yard freestyle relay - Baxter, Liam Byrons (Skaneateles), Utter, Cerrato, 10th place, 7:12.82 (4th-best time overall)
200-yard medley relay - Aidan Ramirez (Suffern), Sargent, Struble, Utter, 13th place, 1:36.15 (7th-best time overall)
200-yard freestyle relay - Ramirez, Utter, Jai Sindhi (Buffalo/St. Anthony's), Cerrato, 13th place, 1:31.26 (9th-best time overall)
