Cortland Earns Runner-up Finish at SUNYAC Men's Swimming and Diving Championships

Dylan Monaco, Kellen Dickman, James DuTremble and Colin Veit finished second in the 400-yard freestyle relay on Saturday and combined to win 19 top-three individual and relay medals at the meet
BUFFALO, N.Y. – Cortland finished in second place out of 11 schools in the final team standings at the 2026 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Swimming and Diving Championships. The four-day meet concluded on Saturday at Erie Community College's Burt Flickinger Center.
 
Penn State Behrend won the league title with 836 points, followed by Cortland (719), Oswego (608), Penn St. Altoona (412), Oneonta (352), New Paltz (312), Pitt Bradford (198), Fredonia (118), Potsdam (104), Delhi (98) and Alfred St. (40). Penn St. Behrend, Penn St. Altoona, Pitt Bradford, Delhi and Alfred St. are SUNYAC affiliate members in men's swimming and diving.
 
The Red Dragons have finished in the top four of the last 22 conference meets, including winning the title last year when the SUNYAC and Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) held a combined championship. Penn St. Behrend finished second in that meet. Prior to last year, Cortland was SUNYAC runner-up in five of the previous six meets.
 
James DuTremble (Pleasantville/Briarcliff) finished second in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:28.68) and Kellen Dickman (Montgomery/Valley Central) placed second in the 200-yard butterfly (1:55.19). The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Dickman, Colin Veit (Port Jefferson/Earl L. Vandermeulen), Dylan Monaco (Lynbrook) and DuTremble finished second in 3:08.12. Veit was third in the 100-yard freestyle (47.29) and Monaco placed third in the 200-yard butterfly (1:56.93).
 
The top three finishers in each event earn All-SUNYAC honors. Winners are first team, runners-up are second team and third-place finishers are third team.
 
Dariusz Sargent (Holland Patent) finished fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:10.67). Four Red Dragons posted sixth-place finishes - Ayden Baxter (Marlboro) in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:12.39), Eliseo Fernandez (Poughkeepsie/Roy C. Ketcham) in the 200-yard backstroke (1:59.16), Zack Kreiley (Dansville) in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:12.46), and Lukas Struble (Middletown/Minisink Valley) in the 200-yard butterfly (1:59.19, 1:58.52 prelims). Jacob Cerrato (Beekman/Arlington) finished seventh in the 200-yard butterfly (1:59.69) and Liam Byrons (Skaneateles) was eighth in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:18.72).
 
Michael Tomasino (Lake Grove/Sachem North) won the "B" final in the 200-yard butterfly (2:02.98) to finish ninth overall. Aiden Ramirez (Suffern) was 10th in the 200-yard backstroke (1:59.85), Lucas Gannon (Schenectady/Mohonasen) finished 11th in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:27.20), Conner Utter (Manassas, VA/Patriot) was 14th in the 200-yard backstroke (2:07.85), and Jai Sindhi (Buffalo/St. Anthony's) finished 14th in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:25.21).
 
Teams are allowed to enter "B" relay teams that can score points but can't finish ahead of any other school's "A" relays. Cortland's scoring "B" relay was the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Cerrato, Byrons, Struble and Ramirez, which officially finished 13th in 3:16.16. They were the third-best "B" relay and would have finished ninth overall.
