CANTON, NY – Patrick Murray scored a man-up goal with 11 seconds remaining to lifting nationally 11th-ranked St. Lawrence to a 13-12 victory over the nationally 10th-ranked Cortland men's lacrosse team on Wednesday evening. Cortland drops to 1-1 on the year, while St. Lawrence improves to 2-0.

Sean Kavanagh (North Canton, OH/Hoover) led the Red Dragons with a career-high eight points on two goals and six assists, while his six assists were also the most in a game for his career. Nick Stoecker (East Setauket/Ward Melville) finished with three goals and an assist, while Stefan Swedlund (Randolph, NJ) provided three goals. Frank Neeson (Orchard Park) chipped in a goal and two assists.

Jamie Rosenzweig finished with three goals and two assists to lead St. Lawrence, while Daniel Mahoney had a goal and three assists for the Saints.

St. Lawrence opened the scoring just 16 seconds into the first quarter, with Drew Knight scoring off an assist from Mahoney after he had scooped up the ground ball on the opening faceoff.

Cortland responded with four straight goals, one each by Stoecker, Kavanagh, and Swedlund to end the first quarter, and another by Neeson five minutes into the second quarter for a 4-1 lead.

After a goal by St. Lawrence, Gannon Houghton (Morrisville/Cazenovia) scored his first goal of the season and Drew Williamee (Canandaigua/Canandaigua Academy) added his second man-up goal of the year to extend the Cortland lead to 6-2. However, the Saints finished the half on a 3-0 run to reduce the deficit to one at halftime.

St. Lawrence outscored Cortland, 3-2, in the third quarter to tie the game at 8-8 heading into the final period, with Stoecker scoring both of Cortland's goals and Kavanagh assisting on both in the frame.

Swedlund scored two consecutive goals for the Red Dragons early in the final quarter, but St. Lawrence responded with four of the next five goals to take its first lead since the opening quarter.

After the Saints took possession with under three minutes remaining and leading by a goal, Charlie Falowski (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow) made a pair of saves to keep the Red Dragons within striking distance, allowing Cortland to tie the game with 35 seconds left on a goal by Mason Carroll (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa).

St. Lawrence won the next faceoff, and was able to take advantage of an offsides penalty on the Red Dragons, capitalizing with Murray's goal with 11 seconds left. Cortland won the final faceoff, but couldn't get a shot on goal in the final seconds.
