Cortland Rolls to 24-7 Win at Brockport

BROCKPORT, NY – Sean Kavanagh (North Canton, OH/Hoover) scored 10 points on seven goals and three assists to lead nationally 10th-ranked Cortland to a 24-7 victory over Brockport in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons improve to 2-1 on the year, while Brockport drops to 0-3.
 
Kavanagh recorded his career high in points for the second straight game, also surpassing his career high in goals, which was four prior to the contest. Nick Stoecker added five points on four goals and an assist, while Drew Williamee (Canandaigua/Canandaigua Academy) and Stefan Swedlund (Randolph, NJ) each scored twice.
 
Charlie Falowski (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow) made seven saves in goal for the Red Dragons to record the victory.
 
Brockport was led by Marc Zappulla, who recorded two goals and an assist, while Michael Dowden added a goal and two assists. Jared Kulik finished with 24 saves for the Golden Eagles.
 
The teams traded goals in the first quarter, before Stoecker's goal with 1:08 remaining gave Cortland a 3-2 lead after one quarter.
 
The Red Dragons outscored the Golden Eagles 4-1 in the second quarter to extend their lead to 7-3 at halftime.
 
Cortland opened the second half with five straight goals to take control of the contest, and had a 10-3 edge in scoring in the frame, with four goals from Kavanagh in the period to give Cortland a 17-6 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
 
After Brockport opened the scoring in the final quarter, the Red Dragons scored the final seven goals of the period to secure the victory, with two goals from Stoecker and five other players registering a goal.
