Men's soccer head coach Steve Axtell has been named the SUNY Cortland C-Club Coach of the Year for the 2025-26 season.

Axtell led the Red Dragons to a 14-1-6 record during the 2025 season. Cortland won the SUNYAC regular-season title and earned an at-large berth into the NCAA Division III tournament, and the Red Dragons posted wins over Delhi and Catholic to advance to the NCAA "Sweet 16." Cortland was eliminated in penalty kicks by Augsburg in the third round and tied for ninth place nationally.

In his 14 seasons at Cortland, Axtell has a combined record of 184-58-30 (.732). He's led the Red Dragons to nine NCAA playoff appearances, including "Sweet 16" runs in four of the last five years. Axtell was previously named the C-Club Coach of the Year in the 2016-17 school year.

The 2025-26 C-Club Rookies of the Year will be announced on Tuesday and Wednesday and the Senior Athletes of the Year will be announced on Thursday and Friday.
