MORRISVILLE, N.Y. –
Connor Beck (Richmond Hill, ON/Toronto Jr. Canadiens) and
Sean Perichak (Oakville, ON/Markham Royals) each recorded a goal and an assist and
Mike Crowley (Buffalo/Springfield Blues) assisted on three goals as Cortland defeated host Morrisville State, 4-2, to earn a weekend split of its SUNYAC two-game road series with the Mustangs.
Mike Sciore (Syracuse/Buffalo Jr. Sabres) and
Louis DiMatteo (Nobleton, ON/Trenton Golden Hawks) scored one goal apiece for the Red Dragons, who improved to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the SUNYAC.
Nick Modica (Suffern/New Jersey Hitmen) earned the win in goal with 30 saves.
CJ Stubbs and R. Austin Johnson each scored a goal and Jorgen Johnson made 29 saves for Morrisville (1-5, 1-3 SUNYAC).
Cortland led 1-0 after the first period on a power play goal by Perichak, assisted by Crowley and Beck. Morrisville knotted the game 7:36 into the second on a goal by Johnson, but Cortland quickly responded with two goals in the next minute to take a 3-1 lead. DiMatteo scored on the power play at the 8:15 mark, with assists credited to Crowley and Perichak, and Sciore found the net at the 8:27 mark off assists from Crowley and
Douglas Elgstam (Stockholm, Sweden/New Jersey Rockets).
The Red Dragons extended their lead to 4-1 on a goal by Beck 6:35 into the third off a
Conor Tierney (Point Pleasant, NJ/Philadelphia Flyers) assist. The hosts closed the scoring on a Stubbs goal with 4:59 remaining.
Cortland held a slim 33-32 edge in shots on goal. Both teams committed 10 penalties. Cortland was 2-for-5 on the power play and killed off all six of the Mustangs' extra-skater advantages.
