Anselment, Williams Each Post Two Victories in 143.5-93.5 Dual Victory at Oneonta

Kailyn Anselment won both the 500-yard and 1,000-yard freestyle races
ONEONTA, N.Y. – Kailyn Anselment (Queensbury/Glens Falls) and Taylor Williams (Slate Hill/Minisink Valley) each registered two of Cortland's nine individual victories as the Red Dragons defeated host Oneonta, 143.5-93.5, in a women's swimming and diving dual meet.

Anselment won both the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:18.22) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:31.75). Williams picked up a pair of first-place finishes in diving. Oneonta only has a 1-meter board at its facility, so the divers were scored for both a six-dive list and a five-dive list on that board. Williams won the six-dive competition with 252.70 points and the five-dive list with 186.10 points, which equated to an 11-dive score of 438.80 points.

Kelly Davey (Plattsburgh) won the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.21). Leah Bernhardt (Groton) won the 100-yard freestyle (56.79) and was second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.65), and Allie Gibson (Watkins Glen) won the 50-yard freestyle (26.53). Julia Torell (Camillus/CBA) captured the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.83) and Alana Szewczyk (South Wales/Holland) had the fastest time in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.66) as an exhibition entry. The foursome of Gibson, Alison Haskell (Groton), Becca Kanoza (Syracuse/West Genesee) and Torell won the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:46.33).

Adriane Casey (West Islip) picked up second-place 1-meter diving points with a six-dive score of 235.45 points and was third in the five-dive set with 168.95 points. Her 11-dive total of 404.40 points is her first of two required NCAA regional qualifying scores of the regular season, giving her a chance to qualify for regionals next week. Ashley Zachgo (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) was second on the five-dive list with 173.40 points and third on the six-dive list with 219.70 points for an 11-dive score of 393.10 points.

Marissa Kordal (Eden) finished second behind Anselment in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:24.34, with Jasmine Elmassry (Queens/Francis Lewis) completing the sweep with a third-place time of 12:22.46. Cortland also took the top three spots in the 100-yard freestyle as Bernhardt was followed by Lily Miller (Buffalo/Starpoint) in second (57.16) and Gibson in third (58.91).

Anni Muehlbauer (Heidelberg, Germany/Helmholtz-Gymnasium) finished second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.06) and Vanessa Vegder (Dansville) was second as an exhibition entry in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.05). Cortland also posted a runner-up finish in the 200-yard medley relay with Josie LaPolt (New Paltz), Szewczyk, Erica Koumas (East Meadow) and Miller timing out at 1:56.54.

Cortland closes the regular season next Saturday with a 1 p.m. meet at Fredonia.
