Isaiah Brooks All-American After Placing Fifth Nationally in 110-Meter Hurdles

Isaiah Brooks (shown during Friday's preliminaries) finished fifth nationally in the 110-meter hurdles to earn All-America honors
GREENSBORO, N.C. – SUNY Cortland senior Isaiah Brooks (Minoa/East Syracuse Minoa) earned All-America honors with a fifth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles during the final day of competition at the NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Irwin Belk Track.

Brooks finished the race in 14.45 seconds. He qualified for the finals on Friday with a personal-best time of 14.31 seconds in the preliminaries.

Cortland's men finished the meet in a tie for 30th place in the team standings with eight points. Brooks scored four points for his fifth-place finish, as did Dane Sorensen (Warwick/Warwick Valley) with his fifth-place effort in the pole vault on Thursday. Wartburg won the team title with 54 points.

On the women's side, Cortland finished tied for 35th place in the final team standings with seven points, which resulted from Aubrianna Lantrip (Phelps/Midlakes) tying for second in the high jump on Friday. Loras won the team title with 58 points.

Coach's Corner – Comments from Cortland Head Coach Steve Patrick

It's hard to think of a circumstance where I would be happier for a student-athlete to close their career with that kind of level of success than Isaiah's.

As a sophomore, Isaiah was a qualifier for the NCAA championships in the heptathlon with a huge performance at the SUNYAC championships.  During the outdoor season, he wasn't able to repeat the qualification, but we were excited about what his junior and senior year were going to bring.

Unfortunately, life sometimes has other plans, as injuries severely hampered Isaiah through his junior indoor track and field season. While he was able to have personal bests in the 60 hurdles and the pole vault, we still weren't clear about what his long-term future would be.

With the gap that COVID required, I don't think anybody would have blamed Isaiah if he had hung up his spikes. Instead, he came back and progressed to a pretty incredible level - finishing this year as the SUNYAC and AARTFC champion in the high hurdles, the top hurdler in the region, and now an All-American!

This is a little bittersweet as we say a final goodbye to our seniors and thank them for what they have given to the program, especially the three with us here this weekend: Aubrianna Lantrip (Bri), Zach Kashmer and, of course, Isaiah Brooks.
