BUFFALO, N.Y. – Cortland's
Kailyn Anselment (Queensbury/Glens Falls) and
Madi Monaghan (Chili/Gates-Chili) earned top-3 finishes during the second full day of competition at the 2022 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.
Cortland solidified its hold on second place out of nine schools in the team standings with 360 points. Geneseo leads with 724, and Cortland holds a 95-point lead on third-place New Paltz (265) and 98-point edge on fourth-place Brockport (262). Oswego (200), Oneonta (198), Fredonia (178.5), Buffalo State (123) and Potsdam (104.5) are fifth through ninth. The final day of competition is slated for Saturday at Erie Community College's Burt Flickinger Center.
Anselment finished third in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:46.09 and Monaghan placed third in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:55.90. The top three finishers in each event earn All-SUNYAC honors (winners are first team, runners-up are second team, third-place finishers are third team).
Marissa Kordal (Eden) and
Evelyn Currier (Waterford/Shenendehowa) joined Anselment in the 400 IM "A" finals. Kordal finished fifth in 4:49.32 and Currier was seventh in 4:58.55.
Emily Lantry (Massena/St. Lawrence) finished fifth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.94), with
Josie LaPolt (New Paltz) eighth in that event (1:02.37).
Nicole Murphy (Saratoga Springs) turned in an eighth-place time of 1:12.23 (1:11.28 prelims) in the 100-yard breaststroke.
The combination of Lantry, Murphy, Kordal and Anselment finished in sixth place in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:54.13.
The Red Dragons turned in six other scoring efforts in the "B" finals of events.
Caitlin Elsasser (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) finished 10th in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.70).
Mackenzie Dickman (Montgomery/Valley Central) placed 10th (1:10.78) and Currier was 11th (1:13.80, 1:13.29 prelims) in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Anna Stahurski (Oakdale/Connetquot) and
Sophia Boccio (Garden City) were 14th (1:06.53) and 15th (1:07.03), respectively, in the 100-yard backstroke, and
Kaila O'Hara (East Islip) finished 16th in the 200-yard freestyle (2:06.74, 2:06.27 prelims).
