Cortland Men Finish Fourth at RPI Kumpf Invitational

Hunter Bernhardt finished second in the 1,000-yard freestyle and third in the 500-yard freestyle
TROY, N.Y. - The Cortland men's swimming and diving team earned a fourth-place finish at the RPI Kumpf Invitational. The College of New Jersey won the title with 641 points, followed by Ithaca (530), RPI (431), Cortland (387) and Skidmore (214).
 
In the dual scoring at the meet, Cortland went 1-3 with a win over Skidmore (178-65) and losses to TCNJ (194-49), Ithaca (169-74) and RPI (130-111).
 
Hunter Bernhardt (Groton) finished second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:02.34) and third in the 500-yard freestyle (4:50.61). Kevin Kohlhoff (West Islip) placed third in 1-meter diving (237.15 points) and fourth in 3-meter diving (239.35 points).
 
Sean Zupko (Montgomery/Valley Central) turned in a fourth-place showing in the 200-yard backstroke (2:00.22). Ethan Domanico (New Windsor/Newburgh Free Academy) finished fifth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:00.03) and seventh in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.65). Lance Meeson (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) placed fifth in 3-meter diving (235.25 points) and eighth in 1-meter diving (182.65 points), and Mason Arnberg (Dix Hills/Half Hollow Hills East) was sixth in the 200-yard IM (2:02.95) and eighth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.10).
 
Other Red Dragon individual top-eight performances were a seventh-place showing by Alex Hilldale (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) in 1-meter diving (196.75 points) and an eighth-place finish by Sam Zani (Irondequoit) in the 100-yard freestyle (49.94).
 
Cortland finished fourth in both relays. Makiah Poli (Cortland/Home schooled), Arnberg, Domanico and Mason Rowlands (Campbell Hall/Washingtonville) were fourth in the 400-yard medley relay (3:39.37) and Jack-Henry Whalen (Yorktown Heights/Yorktown), Nick Dambra (Brockport), Trent deHaan (Greene/Greene Central) and Bernhardt placed fourth in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:19.35).
 
Cortland will travel to Oswego for a dual meet on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
