OSWEGO, N.Y. – Five Red Dragons were individual event double-winners as Cortland defeated host Oswego, 165-84, in a women's swimming and diving dual meet Wedenesday afternoon.
Leah Bernhardt (Groton) won both the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.44) and 500-yard freestyle (5:28.13) and
Areiannah Martinez-Reyes (Queens/Benjamin Cardozo) won the 50-yard backstroke (30.67) and 100-yard backstroke (1:05.70). Martinez-Reyes was also second in the 50-yard freestyle (27.08).
Julia Bryce (Rochester/School of the Arts) captured top honors in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.64) and 50-yard butterfly (28.48).
Emma Bogdanowicz-Wilson (Schenectady) won the 50-yard breaststroke (33.35) and had the best time in the 200-yard IM (2:27.42) as an exhibition entry.
Ashley Zachgo (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) was victorious in both 1-meter diving (239.15 points) and 3-meter diving (242.05 points).
Evelyn Currier (Waterford/Shenendehowa) notched first-place points with her time of 12:20.22 in the 1,000-yard freestyle. The combination of
Emily Lantry (Massena/St. Lawrence),
Mackenzie Dickman (Montgomery/Valley Central), Bryce and
Sophie Amering (Rochester/Hilton) won the 200-yard medley relay in 2:00.14. Cortland also took second in the event with
Caitlin Elsasser (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun),
Norah Eisnor (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa), Martinez-Reyes and
Kaila O'Hara (East Islip) finishing in 2:04.46. As an exhibition entry, the 200-yard freestyle relay team of O'Hara,
Anna Stahurski (Oakdale/Connetquot),
Alayna Miller (Hilton) and Lantry finished first in 1:47.64.
Amering finished second in both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:22.01) and 200-yard freestyle (2:11.29), and Dickman was second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:09.23) and 50-yard butterfly (29.04). Miller finished second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:04.88), Lantry was second in the 100-yard freestyle (57.30), and
Sophia Boccio (Garden City) was runner-up in the 50-yard backstroke (32.15). As an exhibition entry,
Adriane Casey (West Islip) was second in both diving events, scoring 200.30 points on the 3-meter board and 187.65 points on the 1-meter board.
Cortland will host New Paltz and Buffalo State in a tri-meet on Friday at 4 p.m. Buffalo State was originally scheduled to compete at Cortland on Nov. 19 but was rescheduled due to weather. Cortland will also host Division II Le Moyne in a dual meet Saturday at 11 a.m.
