Bernhardt Breaks 10-Minute Mark in 1,000 During Wins vs. New Paltz and Buffalo St.

Hunter Bernhardt became just the fourth Red Dragon to cover the 1,000-yard freestyle in less than 10 minutes
CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland men's swimming and diving team earned victories over New Paltz, 184-92, and Buffalo State, 224-33, in a home tri-meet that was scored as duals between each school.
 
New Paltz defeated Buffalo State, 192-38, in the other dual. New Paltz was the originally scheduled team to compete at Cortland, with Buffalo State joining the meet after their dual at Cortland in November was postponed due to weather.
 
Hunter Bernhardt (Groton) became just the fourth Cortland swimmer in program history to break the 10-minute mark in the 1,000-yard freestyle when he won the race in 9:58.46. He also finished first in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:23.12.
 
Sean Zupko (Montgomery/Valley Central) won the 100-yard backstroke in 55.39 seconds and was second in the 500-yard freestyle in 2:23.48. Mason Arnberg (Dix Hills/Half Hollow Hills East) won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.09) and placed second in the 50-yard freestyle (23.05), while Sam Zani (Irondequoit) won the 50-yard freestyle (22.96). Cortland swept the top three 50 freestyle spots as Aiden Poli (Cortland/Home schooled) was third in 23.24 seconds.
 
Jack-Henry Whalen (Yorktown Heights/Yorktown) won the 100-yard freestyle in 49.23 seconds. The tandem of Makiah Poli (Cortland/Home schooled), Arnberg, Whalen and Zani won the 200-yard medley relay (1:38.84), while Zani, Nick Dambra (Brockport), Whalen and Mason Rowlands (Campbell Hall/Washingtonville) won the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:19.02).
 
Kevin Kohlhoff (West Islip) won 1-meter diving with an 11-dive score of 448.05 points and was second on the 3-meter board with 459.00 points. He has now met NCAA diving standards for the second time this season and has qualified for regionals. Lance Meeson (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) won 3-meter diving with an NCAA standard of 466.73 points and was second on the 1-meter board with 414.53 points. The NCAA standard was his first this season, leaving him one away from making regionals.
 
(Makiah) Poli finished second in the 100-yard backstroke (55.87) and 400-yard IM (4:25.63). Kellen Dickman (Montgomery/Valley Central) completed Cortland's sweep of the top three spots in the 400 IM with his third-place time of 4:36.95, and he was second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:23.48).
 
Jake Bogen (Poughkeepsie/Spackenkill) placed second in both the 200-yard butterfly (2:10.46) and 100-yard butterfly (55.95). Rowlands was the runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.99), Hunter Sugrue-Neuendorf (Valley Cottage/Nyack) was second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.09), and Jack Pagel (Cortlandt Manor/Walter Panas) finished second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:07.39).
 
Cortland hosts Division II Le Moyne in a dual Saturday at 11 a.m.
