Cortland Men Lose Tight Dual Meet at Rochester, 154-144

Makiah Poli won the 100-yard backstroke and was second in two other individual events
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Cortland men's swimming and diving team battled host Rochester to the final relay before falling to the Yellowjackets, 154-144, in dual-meet action. The Red Dragons trailed 141-140 before Rochester won the 400-yard freestyle relay to earn the team victory.

Hunter Bernhardt (Groton) and Kevin Kohlhoff (West Islip) each recorded two wins at the meet. Bernhardt won the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:17.81) and 500-yard freestyle (4:55.18), while Kohlhoff won 3-meter diving (299.80 points) and 1-meter diving (304.25 points). Kohlhoff has now hit the NCAA standard on the 3-meter board twice this year and has earned a spot in the NCAA diving regionals in March. His 1-meter score also meets the NCAA regional qualifying standard.

Makiah Poli (Cortland/Home schooled) earned the Red Dragons' other victory with a time of 55.46 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke. He also was second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.20) and 200-yard individual medley (2:03.98). Jack Clark (Rochester/Aquinas Institute) finished second in both the 50-yard freestyle (22.62) and 100-yard freestyle (50.23).

Hunter Sugrue-Neuendorf (Valley Cottage/Nyack) was the runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.50), Dylan Monaco (Lynbrook) placed second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:08.22) and Sean Zupko (Montgomery/Valley Central) was second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:04.58).
