CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland men's swimming and diving team finished in first place out of six schools at the two-day Snow Flurries Invitational, hosted by the Red Dragons Friday and Saturday at Holsten Pool.
Cortland finished with 1,096 points, followed by Oneonta with 815 and Potsdam with 472. Rounding out the field were Jamestown Community College (311), Fredonia (196) and Western Connecticut State (165).
Hunter Bernhardt (Groton) and
Kellen Dickman (Montgomery/Valley Central) each won three individual events for the Red Dragons. Bernhardt captured the 500-yard freestyle (4:47.47), 200-yard freestyle (1:46.54) and 1,650-yard freestyle (16:57.45). Dickman won the 200-yard butterfly (2:00.88), 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.62) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:17.28).
Sean Zupko (Montgomery/Valley Central) won the 200-yard backstroke (1:57.25) and
Kaz Kadota-Browner (Jericho) won 1-meter diving (457.80 pts.).
The Red Dragons won four relays.
Makiah Poli (Cortland/Home schooled),
Hunter Sugrue-Neuendorf (Valley Cottage/Nyack),
Sam Zani (Irondequoit) and
Jack Clark (Rochester/Aquinas Institute) won the 200-yard medley relay (1:38.61) and Poli, Sugrue-Neuendorf, Dickman and Bernhardt came out on top in the 400-yard medley relay (3:39.39).
Mason Rowlands (Campbell Hall/Washingtonville),
Dylan Anselment (Glens Falls), Bernhardt and Sugrue-Neuendorf won the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:28.62), while Clark, Sugrue-Neuendorf, Bernhardt and Zani captured the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:14.55).
Poli posted runner-up finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (55.04) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.04) and
Dylan Monaco (Lynbrook) was second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:03.37) and 400-yard individual medley (4:45.11). Kadota-Browner placed second in 3-meter diving (437.05 points),
Sean Zupko (Montgomery/Valley Central) finished second in the 500-yard freestyle (4:54.50),
Conner Utter (Manassas, VA/Patriot) was runner-up in the 200-yard IM (2:07.01), Anselment was second in the 50-yard freestyle (22.68) and Sugrue-Neuendorf placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.52).
Cortland earned three runner-up showings in relays in addition to its four wins:
Jack Andrejko (Liverpool), Dickman,
Ethan Domanico (New Windsor/Newburgh Free Academy) and Anselment in the 200-yard medley relay (1:39.07); Rowlands,
Lucas Gannon (Schenectady/Mohonasen), Zani and Zupko in the 800-yard freestyle relay (7:27.28); and Zupko,
Zack Kreiley (Dansville), Zani and Clark in the 400-yard medley relay (3:41.92).
Cortland will be idle until a dual meet at New Paltz on Jan. 13.
