Cortland Men Cruise Past Fredonia, 164-53, in Regular-Season Finale

Trent deHaan won the 100-yard freestyle and led off the winning 200-yard medley relay
FREDONIA, N.Y. – The Cortland men's swimming and diving team wrapped up its regular-season schedule with a 164-53 dual-meet win at Fredonia. The Red Dragons return to action Feb. 15-18 at the SUNYAC Championships in Buffalo.
 
Cortland started the meet by taking the top two spots in the 200-yard medley relay. Trent deHaan (Greene), Mason Arnberg (Dix Hills/Half Hollow Hills East), Daniel Swift (Millerton/Webutuck) and Sam Zani (Irondequoit) won the race in 1:41.48, followed by Nick Dambra (Brockport), Jack-Henry Whalen (Yorktown Heights/Yorktown), Ethan Domanico (New Windsor/Newburgh Free Academy) and Makiah Poli (Cortland/Home schooled) in 1:41.56.
 
Zani won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.86 seconds and deHaan won the 100-yard freestyle in 50.72 seconds. Poli won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:15.97) and 100-yard butterfly (55.42), and also picked up first-place points as the lone entry in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.25).
 
Ben Bruning-Smith (Lockport/Starpoint) was the winner in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.47). Patrick Kivlehan (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury) was victorious in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:49.56) and Hunter Bernhardt (Groton) won the 500-yard freestyle (4:49.18).
 
Cortland closed the day by finishing first and second in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Whalen, Mason Rowlands (Campbell Hall/Washingtonville), Zani and Bernhardt won in 3:21.10 and Aiden Poli (Cortland/Home schooled), Dylan Monaco (Lynbrook), Michael Tomasino (Lake Grove/Sachem North) and Swift were second in 3:28.65.
 
No divers competed at the meet.
