TROY, N.Y. - The Cortland men's and women's swimming and diving teams each earned thrid-place finishes at the RPI Kumpf Invitational.
On the men's side, Ithaca won the team title with 588 points, followed by RPI (529), Cortland (458), Skidmore (321) and TCNJ (86). In the women's meet, Ithaca won the team title with 604 points, followed by RPI (581), Cortland (413.5), Skidmore (352) and TCNJ (64.5).
The scores from the dual-meet scoring component of the meet are not yet available.
Men's Highlights:
Hunter Bernhardt (Groton) won the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:57.32) and placed second in the 500-yard freestyle (4:49.38).
Lance Meeson (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) was the 3-meter diving champion (299.85 points) and finished second on the 1-meter board (260.10 points).
Sam Zani (Irondequoit) turned in a runner-up finish in the 50-yard freestyle (21.73) and was fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (48.28).
Kaz Kadota-Browner (Jericho) placed second in 3-meter diving (282.15 points) and fourth in 1-meter diving (235.80 points), and
Jack Clark (Rochester/Aquinas Institute) finished fifth in the 100-yard freestyle (49.56).
The Red Dragons picked up three top-five relay finishes. Bernhardt,
Hunter Sugrue-Neuendorf (Valley Cottage/Nyack), Zani and
Dylan Anselment (Glens Falls) were third in the 400-yard freestyle relay, while
Kellen Dickman (Montgomery/Valley Central),
Ethan Domanico (New Windsor/Newburgh Free Academy),
Dylan Monaco (Lynbrook) and
Conner Utter (Manassas, VA/Patriot) placed fifth (3:20.65). In the 400-yard medley relay,
Makiah Poli (Cortland/Home schooled), Sugrue-Neuendorf, Dickman and Clark finished fifth (3:40.09).
Women's Highlights:
Leah Bernhardt (Groton) won two events, capturing both the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:51.70) and 500-yard freestyle (5:16.33).
Ella Garrow (Peru) earned a win in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:30.68).
Emily Lantry (Helena/St. Lawrence) was the runner-up in the 200-yard backstroke (2:14.13),
Kaila O'Hara (East Islip) placed second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.10), and the foursome of Lantry, Garrow,
Caitlin Elsasser (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) and
Alayna Miller (Hilton) finished second in 4:08.65. Miller also finished fifth in the 50-yard freestyle (25.61).
Julia Bryce (Rochester/School of the Arts) finished third in the 200-yard butterfly (2:16.07) and fourth in the 200-yard individual medley (2:16.91).
