NEW PALTZ, N.Y. - Julia Sabatino and Abby Korzekwinski each scored 15 points as New Paltz defeated visiting Cortland, 64-50, in a matchup of the top teams in the SUNYAC women's basketball standings.

New Paltz improved to 6-0 in league play and 7-6 overall. Cortland fell to 11-3 overall and dropped to 6-1 in the conference.

Kayla Campbell (Franklin/Franklin Central) led Cortland with 13 points and added five rebounds.
Kaeli McAnally (Islip) finished with 10 points and three assists and
Brooke Tillotson (Marathon) had nine points and four rebounds.
Jackie Funk (Penfield) added seven points and four assists and
Joleen Lusk (Cherry Valley/Cherry Valley-Springfield) led the team with eight rebounds.

Sabatino finished with eight assists and six rebounds in addition to her 15 points and Korzekwinski led the Hawks with 13 rebounds and two blocks along with her 15 points. Madison Mullman scored nine points. New Paltz shot 46 percent from the field and held Cortland to 36 percent shooting.

Cortland led 13-8 in the first quarter before New Paltz used an 8-2 run to take a 16-15 lead at the first period break. Cortland trailed 30-24 at halftime but grabbed a 34-32 lead on a Campbell 3-pointer about two and a half minutes into the third. Korzekwinski answered with a 3-point play, but a Campbell layup gave the Red Dragons a 36-35 lead.

The Hawks, however, responded with seven straight points, and 15 of the last 17 points in the quarter, to take a 50-38 lead. The margin grew to as high as 18 points early in the fourth. Cortland got back to within 10 with 3:20 left but couldn't edge any closer.
