Cortland Takes Control Early in 66-36 Win at Morrisville

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. - Four players scored at least 11 points and Cortland's defense limited Morrisville to 10 first-half points as the Red Dragons defeated the host Mustangs, 66-36, in SUNYAC women's basketball action.
 
Brooke Tillotson (Marathon) led Cortland (13-3, 8-1 SUNYAC) with 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting, 3-of-4 from the 3-point arc. Joleen Lusk (Cherry Valley/Cherry Valley-Springfield), Jackie Funk (Penfield) and Kayla Campbell (Franklin/Franklin Central) each scored 11 points. Funk and Campbell were each 5-of-8 from the floor, and Campbell led the team with eight rebounds. Lusk hit 5-of-9 shots.
 
Haley Potenza (East Aurora) led the Red Dragons with four assists and added four rebounds. Katie Boyd (Red Hook) finished with six points and four rebounds, Alex Dembinsky (Wallkill) recorded five points and five rebounds and Sophie Bissaillon (East Greenbush/Columbia) had five rebounds.
 
Anyssia Ingersoll paced Morrisville (4-11, 1-7 SUNYAC) with nine points and six rebounds. Jakeira Stackhouse scored seven points and Kieonna Christmas added six points and six rebounds.
 
Cortland held Morrisville to 18 percent shooting (2-for-11) in both the first and second quarters. Cortland scored the final seven points of the first quarter to take a 16-5 lead and opened the second quarter on a 12-0 run to go up 28-5 with 4:13 left in the half. Cortland led 37-10 at halftime behind Funk's 11 points, nine points by Tillotson and seven by Lusk. Cortland's lead was at least 28 points over the final 19 minutes.
 
Cortland hosts Buffalo State in league play Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
