Red Dragons Clinch SUNYAC Regular-Season Title With 1-0 Road Win at Potsdam

POTSDAM, NY – The Cortland women's soccer team clinched the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) regular-season title, and the top seed in the upcoming conference tournament, with a 1-0 road victory at Potsdam on Saturday afternoon. Cortland improves to 11-2-4 (7-0-1 SUNYAC), while Potsdam falls to 8-7-2 (2-6-1 SUNYAC).

Piper Klammer (Mahopac) netted her second goal of the season for the Red Dragons, while Julia DeTurris (Hicksville) provided an assist. The Cortland defense allowed Potsdam to register just one shot attempt, and the Bears did not have a shot on target.

Olivia Rouse (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) supervised a clean 90 minutes in goal as the Red Dragons kept their 12th consecutive clean sheet.

Megan Fry made 10 saves in goal for the Bears, and Morgan had the only shot attempt of the contest for Potsdam.

The Red Dragons nearly took the lead in the 12th minute, but Gianna Cirilla (Pattersonville/Schalmont) struck the crossbar with her shot attempt. Just minutes later, DeTurris also hit the right post with a shot attempt.

Cortland took the lead with a goal in the 19th minute. DeTurris sprinted past a Potsdam defender down the right sideline and delivered a low cross to the center of the 18-yard area. Klammer flicked a backwards shot with the outside of her cleat, diverting the ball into the bottom left corner of the net.

The Red Dragons had two more opportunities in the half, but Fry made two saves to keep the score at 1-0 into halftime.

Cortland looked to add to its advantage in the second half, but Fry made six more saves to keep the Bears within striking distance. However, the Red Dragons controlled possession for more of the remainder of the contest, and did not allow Potsdam to record a shot attempt in the second to secure the shutout victory.
