Cortland Closes Fall Semester with 5-1 Loss at Norwich

NORTHFIELD, VT - Host Norwich scored five unanswered goals for a 5-1 victory over the Cortland women's hockey team in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon. Cortland ends the fall semester with a 4-5-1 record, while Norwich improves to 8-2-0.

Fanny Aneborn (Linkoping, Sweden/Lulea HF Sweden) scored the lone Cortland goal, with Ainsley Delacourt (Stoney Creek, ON/Brampton Canadettes U22AA) providing an assist. Eline Gillodes (La Saulce, France/Kents Hill) made 30 saves in goal to match her season high. Katie Mahoney (Toronto, ON/Toronto Leaside Junior) went 9-and-2 on faceoffs for Cortland.

Livia Brooks netted a pair of goals to lead the Cadets, while Jordan Brady and Breanna Ricker each contributed a goal and an assist, and Ellin Rees scored a goal. Madison Brunet made 11 saves to earn the victory in goal.

Aneborn opened the scoring with her third goal of the season 6:41 into the opening period, with Delacourt providing the assist.

The Red Dragons committed a tripping penalty with under two minutes left in the opening period, and Norwich was able to capitalize with a power-play goal by Brooks to tie the game into the first intermission.

Cortland also committed an elbowing penalty in the final minute that carried over into the second frame, and Brooks tallied her second power-play goal of the game to give the Cadets a 2-1 only 56 seconds into the second period.

The Red Dragons had their first opportunity on the power play four minutes into the period, but were unable to equalize with the extra skater, and instead allowed a short-handed goal by Brady with eight seconds remaining on the Norwich penalty to make it 3-1.

Rees tallied Norwich's third goal of the second period, and fourth goal of the game, just past the midway point of the period to give the Cadets a 4-1 advantage. Gillodes made 13 saves in the second period to keep the deficit at three, despite Norwich holding a commanding 30-10 edge in shots on goal through two periods.

Ricker added a goal with only two minutes remaining in the third period for the 5-1 score line, and the Norwich defense held Cortland to just two shots on goal in the final stanza to secure the victory.
