SCRANTON, PA - Travis Wagner (Penfield) made 16 saves to break the program's career saves record for a goalkeeper, and the Cortland men's lacrosse team won its fifth consecutive game with a 14-8 victory at Scranton on Saturday afternoon. Cortland is now 5-1 on the year, while Scranton falls to 0-7.

Wagner now has 691 saves for his career, passing Steve Feltmann, who had amassed 690 saves from 2000-03.

Sean Kavanagh (North Canton, OH/Hoover) led Cortland with four goals and an assist, while
Nick Stoecker (East Setauket/Ward Melville) provided two goals and three assists.
Kole Stuver (Fairport) scored three goals and
Sam Rothman (Dix Hills/Half Hallow Hills East) netted a pair of goals, while
Frank Neeson (Orchard Park) recorded two assists.

Tucker Macknik (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker),
Ryan Scanlon (Cornelius, NC/William Amos Hough), and
Nicky Miltenberger (Ridge/Longwood) each scooped up four ground balls for the Red Dragons. Thrasher,
Dino Bowen (Yorktown), and
Christian Lembo (Farmingdale) had two caused turnovers each.

Kyle Holmes and Pat McCormack each had two goals and an assist to lead Scranton, while John O'Connor won 13 faceoffs and picked up seven ground balls.

Cortland needed just seven seconds to open the scoring, with
Jack O'Brien (Babylon) winning the opening faceoff and feeding Stoecker for the goal. Scranton quickly responded with a goal to tie the score just one minute later.

Cortland went ahead 2-1 on a goal by Rothman off an assist from Stoecker, but the Royals tied the score again before going up 3-2 on an extra-man goal after a cross-checking penalty on the Red Dragons.

Kavanagh netted his first goal of the game off an assist from Stoecker with under three minutes remaining, but a goal by Quinn Carson with 1:09 left gave Scranton a 4-3 lead after one quarter.

Another cross-checking penalty by Cortland allowed Scranton to score a second man-up goal to go up 5-3 with 14:18 remaining in the half. Cortland closed the half by scoring three of the final four goals, including tallies by Stuver, Scanlon, and the tying goal by Stoecker with 15 seconds remaining.

Cortland outscored Scranton 4-0 in the third quarter to jump out ahead by a score of 10-6. Kavanagh netted back-to-back goals in the first four minutes, and
Nathan Nagengast (Bay Shore) found the back of the net with his first goal of the season. Stoecker set up Stuver's second goal of the game to put Cortland up by four entering the fourth quarter. Â

Kavanagh, Rothman, and Stuver each scored to put Cortland ahead by seven at 13-6 with 2:36 remaining, while Wagner tied the career saves record with a save on Myles McCutcheon with 5:42 remaining.

The Royals added a pair of goals in the final two minutes to cut the lead to five, and Wagner stopped McCormack with 1:06 remaining for his 691st career save.

Caden Morra (Farmingdale/Plainedge) completed the scoring with 37 seconds left, scooping up a ground ball and depositing a rebound into the back of the net after his initial shot was saved.
