Marcus "Marc" Martone, a 1949 Cortland graduate and a 1976 Cortland C-Club Hall of Fame inductee, passed away on August 31 at age 99.
Martone played football for the Red Dragons, earning the team's Red Letter Award as a senior. He also competed in baseball and wrestling. He taught, coached and served as an athletic administrator for many organizations, including the New York State Public High School Athletic Association, from 1973-92. Prior to that he served a chairman of physical education, head of boys interscholastic sports, and head football coach at H. Frank Carey High School on Long Island, and in 1974 was appointed District Athletic Director for the Sewanhaka Central school system, which at the time encompassed five Junior/Senior High Schools and one Junior High School. The football field at Carey High is named in his honor.
