KINGS POINT, N.Y. – The Cortland women's and men's swimming and diving teams competed at the non-team scoring U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Memorial Invitational on Saturday. The meet featured competitors from Cortland, Merchant Marine, The College of New Jersey, Adelphi, Pace and Maritime College.
On the women's side,
Leah Bernhardt (Groton) won both the 500-yard freestyle (5:17.54) and 200-yard freestyle (1:59.45) and was fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:42.07).
Ella Garrow (Peru) won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:33.80) and was second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.09), losing by just a hundredth of a second. Garrow also placed third in the 200-yard individual medley (2:20.85).
Madi Monaghan (Chili/Gates Chili) was second in both the 200-yard IM (2:19.98) and 400-yard IM (4:58.69).
Emily Lantry (Helena/St. Lawrence) finished second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:17.79), third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.10) and fourth in the 200-yard IM (2:22.26).
Alyssa Haberlack (Long Beach) finished second in 1-meter diving (206.60 points) and third in 3-meter diving (175.60 points), while
Madison Heffern (Gilbert, AZ/Gilbert Christian) was second on the 3-meter board (209.65 points) and third on the 1-meter board (200.60 points).
Sophie Amering (Hilton) turned in a third-place showing in the 500-yard freestyle (5:34.50) and a fifth-place effort in the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.53).
Areiannah Martinez-Reyes (Queens/Benjamin Cardozo) was third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.54) and fifth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.14), and
Alayna Miller (Hilton) finished third in the 50-yard freestyle (25.97).
Kaitlyn Devaney (Lynbrook) finished fourth in both the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.28) and 50-yard freestyle (26.09).
Caitlin Elsasser (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) was fourth in the 400-yard IM (5:13.40),
Julia Bryce (Rochester/School of the Arts) was fifth in the 200-yard IM (2:22.69), and
Emma Bogdanowicz-Wilson (Schenectady) finished fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.79). In addition, the combination of Lantry, Garrow, Martinez-Reyes and Miller finished second in the 200-yard medley relay (1:54.79).
For the men,
Kaz Kadota-Browner (Jericho) won 1-meter diving with a score of 294.25 points and
Lance Meeson (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) was second in 3-meter diving with 299.75 points. Both are NCAA regional qualifying scores; Kadota-Browner already earned a trip to the regionals with his previous scores; Meeson has now qualified for regionals after reaching the 3-meter standard for the second time this season. Meeson also placed fourth in 1-meter diving (264.45 points).
Hunter Bernhardt (Groton) was runner-up in both the 500-yard freestyle (4:43.35) and 200-yard freestyle (1:46.22).
Sam Zani (Irondequoit) placed second in the 100-yard freestyle (48.49) and third in the 50-yard freestyle (21.98).
Kellen Dickman (Montgomery/Valley Central) finished second in the 100-yard butterfly (51.87).
Makiah Poli (Cortland/Home schooled) finished fifth in the 200-yard IM (2:01.82) and 400-yard IM (4:30.88).
Jack Clark (Rochester/Aquinas Institute) ended fifth in the 50-yard freestyle (22.17),
Sean Zupko (Montgomery/Valley Central) was fifth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:02.66), and
Alex Hilldale (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) placed fifth in 3-meter diving (235.30 points).
