In January 1995, Andrea Seger became athletic director of the newly combined 20-sport men's and women's intercollegiate program at Ball State University in Muncie, Ind. She is only one of six female athletic directors from the 111 programs currently competing at the NCAA I-A level.

A native of Norwalk, Conn., she competed in field hockey and volleyball at SUNY Cortland and earned a B.S.E. in 1971. She returned to Norwalk, where she taught physical education and coached volleyball between 1971-74. Seger earned an M.S.P.E. with a specialization in athletic training from Indiana State University in 1975.

For the next seven years, she was an assistant professor and assistant athletic trainer at Ball State. In March 1983, after a brief stint as acting athletic director, Seger became athletic director of the women's intercollegiate athletic program until being promoted to Ball State's sole athletic director in 1995. A past president of the NCAA I-A Women Athletic Administrators Organization, she has served on many Mid-American Conference committees. She was recently appointed to a four-year term on the 34-member NCAA Division I Management Council. Seger was inducted in the Ball State University Hall of Fame on September 22, 1997.

UPDATE- March, 2015: Seger retired as Director of Athletics Emeritus, at Ball State University in 2002. She began working as Senior Associate at Alden and Associates, Inc in 2004. She received a Lifetime Award from National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators in 2010. She was inducted into The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics Hall of Fame in June of 2012. Seger volunteers her time at the Special Olympics, at SWOOP which stands for Strong Women Organizing Outrageous Projects, and the Executive Women's Golf Association.
