As founder and president of the WorkCare Group Inc., of Charlottesville, Va., George J. Pfeiffer designs health promotion programs and products for corporations and manages care organizations that include Mobil Corp., Liberty Mutual and Blue Cross of Virginia. In the 1970's, he developed and managed the Xerox Health Management Program - the first mass communication based health/fitness program with a Fortune 500 corporation. Pfeiffer was founding member and president of the Association of Worksite Health Promotion, which now numbers 3,000 members internationally.

A frequent author in professional journals, he is senior editor of Worksite Health. In 1984, he was selected as one of the "Ten Healthy American Fitness Leaders" by the U.S. Jaycees and the President's Council for Physical Fitness.

Pfeiffer was an outstanding cross country and track runner at Cortland. He won the 1972 SUNYAC cross country title and set the school course record. The Cheektowaga, N.Y., native was an all-conference miler and two-miler. In 1973, he was voted the Beta Phi Epsilon Outstanding Senior Athlete. While pursuing his master's degree at Cortland, Pfeiffer helped coach the track and cross country squads.
