George King was a student at Cortland from 1946 to 1949. He was a defensive and offensive end in football, wrestled in the 167 pound class and ran the 220, 440 and mile relay in track. King remembers a number of "big moments" in his intercollegiate activities at Cortland, one of which was winning the 220 yard dash the first time he ever competed in the event. In football, catching passes was his forte but his biggest thrill came on defense. With Cortland leading Hartwick 14-7 late in the game, Hartwick was marching toward a tieing score. With the ball on Cortland's 30 yard line, King tackled the enemy quarterback for three consecutive 10 yard losses to preserve the win.

After graduation, he was a teacher and coach in the public schools of Auburn, N.Y., and was a member of the faculty at the University of Buffalo from 1952-58. He has a master's degree from Buffalo.

He undertook, as owner and director, the development of the Royalton Private Schools in Cocoa Beach and Merritt Island, Fla., where he was associated from 1958 to 1970. He also found time to be director of athletics at Brevard Community College and became engaged in a number of varied activities in the education and business fields. He was senior vice president of the Cape Kennedy Federal Savings and Loan, a board member of the City National Bank in Cocoa, and executive assistant to the president at Florida Technological University Foundation. King was appointed by Governor Claude Kirk of Florida to serve on the State Civil Defense Advisory Board and by President Lyndon Johnson to serve on the Public Officials Advisory Council in the Office of Economic Opportunity. He was elected to two four-year terms as Brevard County Commissioner from 1962-1969. King was named executive vice president of the Buffalo Braves in 1971.

UPDATE: King has since passed away, although we do not know the exact date.
