Timothy G. Hale has been the University of Rochester's highly successful men's cross country and track and field coach since 1973. His cross country squads have a combined 118-37 dual meet record with nine undefeated seasons, nine NCAA Division III Regional titles, 11 New York State crowns and 11 top 10 national finishes. His 1991 team won the NCAA Division III Championship. The seven time league and three-time regional Coach of the Year has directed 57 All-Americans. The NCAA has honored Hale's teams annually the last six years for their 3.0-plus cumulative grade point averages. In track and field, his indoor teams have a 70-38 mark and his outdoor squads a 149-32 record.

He is past president of the NCAA Division III Cross Country Coaches Association, past president of the New York State Track and Field Association, past chair of the NCAA Division III Rules Committee, and former publisher of the New York Track and Cross Country Newsletter.

A native of Bridgeport, N.Y., and a Chittenango High graduate, Hale competed on SUNY Cortland's state champion track and field teams in the mid-1960's. Hale earned a B.S.E. from SUNY Cortland in 1968.

He has been active with the Special Olympics, the American Cancer Society and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Hale and his wife, Linda Shroat Hale '68, have a son, Matthew.
